It certainly has been a crazy 6 months if you have been involved in trying to move home. With the SDLT holiday being announced last year we saw an increased demand in people wishing to move home. Our property department has been stretched to it's very limit over the last few months and yesterday saw the final day of the Stamp Duty Holiday to £500k.
There were a record number of people needing our help over the last few months, all of whom were stressed at the prospect of losing out, not only on their DREAM HOME, but the opportunity of saving on the expense of Stamp Duty Land Tax.
At F Barnes, we work differently to other solicitors, we have maintained the one to one service as our competitors have moved towards various software programmes and case management systems to make them more efficient with their costs.
At no time, other than the last year, has it been more obvious that when moving home, clients need reassurance, personal guidance and someone to hold their hand rather than a third party portal they relate to.
The Directors want to congratulate everyone from our, front of house members who have taken the stressful calls, to the assistants and legal advisors who have held this all together for the good of our clients.
Although a testing time, what an incredible plus to know that we have made so many people so happy as they lay their foundations down in their 'New Home'.
Our Head of Property department, Tina Marwa was jubilant yesterday as the final scheduled simultaneous exchange and completion took place as the clock struck 5. Well done Team F Barnes, you make us so proud.
As things stand you will not be liable to pay Stamp Duty Land Tax on anything below £250k until the end of September when it will revert to £125k as pre-Covid times. We are not sure whether this will be extended or a major shake up will happen as a result of recent months. What we can say is that we love what we do and long may this continue.
